Ty Law Close to Being Signed

According to Fox25’s Butch Stearns, the Patriots are close to signing a contract with free agent cornerback Ty Law.

FOX25 has learned that the Patriots are close to a deal with Ty Law that would bring the 34 year-old cornerback back to Foxboro.

According to a source close to the situation, Law is ready to sign in order to play football this upcoming season with either the Patriots or the New York Jets and both teams are talking with him right now.   Also according to the source, Law would prefer to sign with the Patriots and they are working hard towards making that happen as soon as possible.

Safety?  Corner?  Nickel? It doesn’t really matter.  Although I think if the deal was multi-year, Law would play corner this year, while making the transition to nickel/safety next year.

Before everyone gets too excited about this, I want to point out that I’m not sure about the credibility of this source.  Before today, I had never heard of Butch Stearns, and just yesterday, Mike Reiss stated that Law is likely content to waiting to see what opens up.

So don’t get your hopes up, but what I can tell you is that Ty Law wants to  be a Patriot.  He’s got an offer on the table, and we’ll see what he does.
